After 14yrs C Murder demands hearing of appeal in State and Federal Courts

By: PRLog

SAN ANTONIO - Dec. 21, 2023 - PRLog -- It is crucial to bring attention to this matter.
Corey Miller's case is open to the public, with all filings being public records. Considering recent developments and the need for a fair and just legal process, which has not been afforded to Corey Miller since his 2009 conviction, we believe it is crucial to bring attention to this matter. Corey conviction was largely based on the testimony of two witnesses. Those witnesses have since recanted their testimony, claiming that their testimony was coerced through threats of violence and incarceration by investigators.  With that being said, the Louisiana courts are still denying Mr. Miller a new hearing. On November 13,2023 US District Judge Sarah s. Vance ruled to uphold Corey Miller's 2009 murder conviction. Her ruling upholds a state court decision that found two witnesses' recantation of their testimony to be "suspect and not reliable"

Miller's attorney, is continuing the appeal process, There's no physical evidence against him

Jane Hogan, Miller's attorney, is continuing the appeal process, which she says is ongoing. "What frustrates me the most about Corey's case is that there's no evidence against him. The only evidence that the state presented at his second trial are the purported eyewitness statements of Darnell and Kenneth Jordan, both of whom have canted their testimony." There's no physical evidence against him. The two people who testified against him and said, "We saw him do it," and their testimony was completely different to each other. The only solid piece of physical evidence that was recovered was a chain found near the deceased body. They thought that it would contain Corey's DNA, so they tested it, it didn't contain his DNA. We filed a motion to have it retested recently, and that got denied.

As members of a society that values justice and due process, it is crucial that we ensure all individuals are afforded their fundamental rights.

It is our firm belief that every individual is entitled to a fair and impartial legal process, and we express concern that Mr. Miller has not yet had the opportunity for a hearing. As members of a society that values justice and due process, it is crucial that we ensure all individuals are afforded their fundamental rights. We are not advocating for a specific outcome but rather for a transparent and unbiased legal examination of the case. A fair hearing is essential to address any new evidence, procedural concerns, or other factors that may contribute to the overall understanding of the case. We call upon all those in power locally and nationally who believe in real justice to support this initiative. Whether through public statements, engagement with relevant authorities, or community outreach, our collective effort can contribute to fostering a legal environment that upholds the principles of justice for Corey Miller. The evidence is open for the public to read and see that an innocent person is behind bars, and we must hold Jefferson Parish accountable to the principles of justice.

By standing together in support of a fair legal process, we can make a positive impact and ensure that justice prevails.
