New Chicago coffee roaster aims to support Andersonville antique shop owner

By: PRLog

Roost Coffee will raise funds for business owner Daniel Malone following double blow of COVID closure and a cancer diagnosis

CHICAGO - April 3, 2023 - PRLog -- Longtime business owner Daniel Malone didn't think things could get worse when the COVID pandemic forced him to shutter his Andersonville antique shop, Roost Chicago.

Then he was dealt a cruel double blow: A cancer diagnosis. Worse yet, as a small business owner with no money coming in due to pandemic closures, Malone is uninsured.

In addition to running his antique shop on Clark Street for more than 15 years, Malone is a coffee lover. So his friends pooled their talents and resources to bring a ray of hope back into his life the best way they knew how: by founding a new coffee roastery.

Roost Roastery in Rogers Park aims to bring a new coffee experience to Chicago with freshly roasted coffee in two blends: Roost Boost & Half Cocked. For every bag of Roost Roastery coffee purchased through this campaign, 50 percent of profits will go directly to Daniel's recovery.

Roost was founded by Fred Spreen, a local entrepreneur who turned to Malone for his good taste and style many times over the years.

"Daniel made his shop a unique stop for thousands of customers who have filled their homes and businesses with his amazing finds," Spreen said. "My home wouldn't be the same without Roost."

Spreen wanted to find a creative way to support Malone while giving them something they all enjoy: a cup of delicious coffee.

"We want to help him get back on his feet, and doing what he loves," he said. "Our goal is to build a reputation for high-quality beans backed by love for our friend, for Chicago, and for a sublime coffee experience."

Spreen is bootstrapping Roost Roastery with the hopes to get volume to a point where they can impact as many lives as possible. In addition to raising funds for Malone, he will also seek out other charitable causes to support with proceeds from coffee sales.

"Roost Roastery is coffee with purpose," Spreen said. "By buying our coffee, you'll not only get to enjoy some amazing Chicago-roasted coffee, you'll also be able to support people who need our help."
