Lium Satellite Data on Utility-Scale Solar Highlights Big Project Queue

AUSTIN, Texas - September 19, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

Earlier this month, Lium LLC, a leading energy market research provider, sent clients the first solarSAT™ data update since launching the product a month ago to track real-time progress on all the utility-scale solar projects.

The data release comes ahead of a large industry conference this week (RE+ in Anaheim, CA), where the Lium research team will be discussing new data with solar market participants.

In August, Lium's solarSAT™ captured 82 projects where dirt was moved but developers were waiting on panels. Another 45 projects were installing panels in August, five of which had started taking panel deliveries during the month. Twelve projects had finished panel installation but were waiting to be turned online. The growing queue of projects has been due to the pace of panel deliveries that have yet to improve significantly as of August.

The solarSAT™ product currently tracks progress on more than 20 GWac of large-scale solar capacity under construction in the U.S. Using real-time satellite data as support, Lium is anticipating more than 7 GWac of solar capacity to come online in H2 2022 while 19-23 GWac of solar capacity is likely to come online in 2023.

EDF Renewables and Enel were standouts for panel deliveries in August while Nextera (NEE) has also been busier than earlier this year.

Tracker installations have been robust recently, and projects using Array Technologies (ARRY) and Gamechange Solar equipment have been particularly notable. This follows a big surge in firstDIRT™ moved during the second quarter of 2022.

In the Lium solarSAT™ list of stalled projects, most are with Jinko Solar (JKS) and LONGi while none are with First Solar (FSLR). For developers, Invenergy, Orsted, and RWE have the most solar delayed.

Alongside the August solarSAT™ report, Lium updated three solarSAT™ databases:

  • solarSAT™ Summary Data
  • solarSAT™ Status Detail
  • firstDIRT™ Monthly Update

Lium LLC recently launched this new intelligence product, solarSAT™, to track in real time the development of every large-scale U.S. solar project through satellite imagery.

The 21-page launch report is publicly available on Lium's website: https://lium.com/solarsat-launch-leading-indicator-for-u-s-utility-scale-solar-activity
