DasH2Energy Secures $1.2 Million in Grant Funding From the California Energy Commission

The grant allows DasH2Energy to demonstrate non-lithium-Ion energy storage systems utilizing green hydrogen as an extended-duration storage fuel and expand its business model use cases for zero-emission hydrogen peaker plants

SAN DIEGO - September 14, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

DasH2Energy (d.b.a. Dash Clean Energy) is the recipient of $1.2 million in grant funding from the California Energy Commission. The grant allows Dash2Energy to demonstrate non-lithium-Ion energy storage systems utilizing green hydrogen as an extended-duration storage fuel. The grant will also allow Dash2Energy to expand its business model use cases for zero-emission hydrogen peaker plants while supporting the State of California's initiative to reach its 100% renewable targets and provide equitable, reliable energy to underserved communities.

In the past year, Dash2Energy completed the initial development phase of a thermodynamic modeling software tool called HydroDATUM that calculates the lifecycle carbon intensity, system efficiency, and degradation for hydrogen electrolyzers and fuel cell systems and will validate their models during this grant period.

Dash2Energy has partnered with Teledyne Energy Systems, which will provide the electrolyzer for this project. The commercial operation of the unit will be in January 2023 with a 12-month project roadmap. The Advanced Power and Energy Program (APEP) at the University of California, Irvine, will host the project and be the principal investigator for the project's development.

"What DasH2Energy is building has been 20 years in the making since we first started doing hydrogen modeling at the North Carolina Agricultural & Technical campus," said CEO Gordon Dash. "I am excited to use my experience in the utility-scale wind business while continuing to expand on our vision of a zero-emission peak power through green hydrogen."
