IEDC Adds Pandemic Recommendations to Leadership in Times of Crisis: A Toolkit for Recovery and Resilience

By: PRLog

Both the Toolkit and accompanying whitepaper were made possible through funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration

WASHINGTON - Sept. 12, 2022 - PRLog -- Through funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) recently updated the organization's 2015 text for communities facing disaster, titled Leadership in Times of Crisis: A Toolkit for Recovery and Resilience and released a whitepaper, What We've Learned From Covid-19.

The Toolkit contains 13 chapters, detailing economic developers' role in building resilience and leading recovery, including a new chapter on pandemic-focused resilience based on the research from the whitepaper.

IEDC conducted a year-long research project focused on eight communities. In addition to an analysis of the pandemic's effects on these communities, and a profile of each, the whitepaper includes the nine best and promising practices that economic development organizations can implement to become more resilient, especially to pandemics.

"Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, IEDC has infused support, expertise and resources into struggling, disaster-affected American communities and organizations. IEDC has and will continue to stay at the forefront of providing practical and relevant resources for community resilience and recovery" said IEDC President and CEO, Nathan Ohle. "I am so grateful for our partnership with the U.S. Economic Development Administration for making this project possible, and for the dedicated commitment to this work that EDA has shown over the past two decades alongside IEDC."

"IEDC plays an important role in helping disaster- impacted communities recover and become more resilient to future shocks, and EDA is proud of the strong partnership we have built to assist these communities as they develop and implement economic development strategies that help them grow and thrive," said Alejandra Y. Castillo, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development. "The new toolkit is an important contribution and a timely resource. Its key learnings will strengthen the ability of governments and organizations to prepare for and respond to situations that challenge our shared vision of American prosperity."

The communities that participated in research for the whitepaper are:

  • Albemarle Commission, North Carolina
  • Bent County Community Foundation, Colorado
  • Develop Indy, Indianapolis, Indian
  • Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission, Louisiana
  • City of Martinsburg, West Virginia
  • Port Artur Economic Development Corporation, Texas
  • Downtown Stockton Alliance, CA
  • Tri-County Economic Development District
