Fine Art Shippers to Transform the Red Cross Art Van into a Small ApartmentIlya Kushnirskiy, Co-Founder of the art logistics company Fine Art Shippers, is going to transform the Red Cross van into a tiny apartment as part of the Airbnb creative contest.

Ilya Kushnirskiy, Marketing Director and Co-Founder of Fine Art Shippers, joined the Airbnb contest, which offers people to turn their craziest home ideas into reality. Ilya Kushnirskiy plans to transform the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van into a small and comfortable apartment. Originally, the vehicle was used for art transportation and was part of the collaborative project between Fine Art Shippers and the famous street artist Mitchell Schorr. Since the van was turned into a piece of art on wheels, Ilya now wants to convert it into a home for travelers and people who would be able to take a rest and enjoy being part of the art project.

The art shipping van that is going to be converted into an apartment was once owned by the Red Cross. After the acquisition, Ilya Kushnirskiy and the Fine Art Shippers team had to rejuvenate the vehicle by investing a lot of time and effort to make it look and function like brand-new. According to Mercedes-Benz, that particular model belongs to one of the most reliable series. It was manufactured in Germany and imported to the United States in 2002. After the renovation was complete, the Sprinter van became an ideal vehicle to deliver artworks all around the country quickly.

In June 2021, Fine Art Shippers joined forces with Mitchell Schorr to turn the van into a piece of art. The famous mural painter continued his iconic “Da Race” series by painting his new piece right on the van, hence the name of the collaborative project “Da Race on Wheels.” In July, Ilya Kushnirskiy teamed up with a team of dedicated professionals, including Sofia Birina, Roman Luka, and Sergey Sevantsyan, to turn the vehicle into NFT art and present it on Rarible and OpenSea. This year, the creative leader of Fine Art Shippers plans to transform the Sprinter van into an apartment that will be located in a special place in Brooklyn, New York. People will be able to stay inside the well-equipped apartment on wheels and become part of the art project. Furthermore, one will be able to take the van for a spin to share art with others and explore Brooklyn’s rich art scene.

Airbnb opened its OMG! Fund project on June 22, 2022, for a period of 30 days through July 22, 2022, 11:59 PM ET. One hundred recipients will be selected by the panel over the next several months. Winners will receive all the necessary resources to build their spaces next year.
