Help the Aged Switches From RSA To CRYPTOCard Two-Factor Authentication

CRYPTOCard (www.cryptocard.com), the leading authentication technology developer for heterogeneous environments, is proud to announce that Help the Aged has migrated 250 token users from RSAs to CRYPTOCards two-factor authentication technology to significantly cut the costs associated with providing simple and secure network access for its remote users. The users will utilize CRYPTOCards KT-1 keychain token, which unlike its current token does not need to be repurchased every five years. Help the Aged will purchase additional tokens as it remote/home-based worker program expands.

Unhappy with the costs associated with its existing two-factor authentication solution, Help the Aged began researching alternative solutions from such companies as Vasco, Secure Computing, and CRYPTOCard. Although price was a key criterion, Help the Aged did not want to sacrifice level of security or ease of use, and also wanted to ensure its users were not inconvenienced by switching to an alternative solution. Help the Aged selected CRYPTOCard to provide secure remote access via its Cisco VPN client. Not only did CRYPTOCard meet Help the Ageds price and security criteria, it also provided a simple migration path from the existing tokens.

It was simply too expensive for a charitable organization to repurchase all tokens every five years, so I began looking for an alternative solution that could provide the same level of security at a far lower price, said Greg Cooke, IT Infrastructure Manager, Help the Aged. CRYPTOCards tokens never have to be replaced, and as its server can support Help the Ageds existing tokens, it made migrating users a pretty transparent process, Cooke continued. When an existing token expires, a user simply starts using a CRYPTOCard token with no inconvenience or interruption in service.

It has always been CRYPTOCards intent to make two-factor authentication available to all organizations, and that means providing flexible solutions that can work on any platform and fit any budget, said Jason Hart, CEO of CRYPTOCard Europe. By removing these barriers, CRYPTOCard makes it possible for any organization to eliminate weak static passwords to ensure their network is protected from unauthorized access.

A recent Butler Group report explains that as organizations look to increase security, cost and ease of use will be key differentiators when researching available solutions.

The growing impact of regulatory compliance requirements means that the market for solutions such as CRYPTOCards strong authentication that can demonstrate ease-of-use, value-to-business, and provable ROI, will grow significantly, explained Andrew Kellett, Senior Research Analyst, Butler Group.

Developed for real-world networks where Linux and Mac workstations often live in a mixed Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows domain, with Windows clients and Apache or IIS Web servers CRYPTOCards event-based two-factor authentication tokens make it simple and cost effective to replace weak static passwords with a password that is randomly generated for every logon attempt. One-time passwords cannot be reused by hackers, and eliminate both the help-desk costs associated with resetting forgotten passwords and the security risk resulting from users writing them down.
