The art of storytelling is inherent in the jazz tradition. It is a profound, intimate, and improvisational form of sharing. Founded in 1993 by choreographer Pat Taylor, JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble embodies this distinct expressiveness and honors the jazz legacy as a vital thread in the cultural fabric of African American history and heritage and a defining element of the American experience. THE STORIES WE TELL explores our world through a richly hued, jazz-imbued lens.

JazzAntiqua has been presented in performance at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Playboy Jazz Festivals (Hollywood Bowl), Music Center of Los Angeles County, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California African American Museum, The Jazz Bakery, Irvine Barclay Theater, Ford Amphitheater, CIAEI Theater (Brazil), San Francisco's Dance Mission Theater, Watts Towers Jazz Festival, and many other distinguished venues.

JazzAntiqua's community arts engagement initiatives include LEGACY Jazz Project for teen dancers, intergenerational conversation series The Community Salon, and The Movement in the Music™ - a daylong celebration of jazz dance. The company's mission and programs have been recognized with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Black Art Futures Fund, California Arts Council, International Association of Blacks in Dance, Center for Cultural Innovation, California Humanities and Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
