The Gleenr software tracks eye movements and facial muscles to assess several physiological factors, including heartbeats per second, blood pressure, and breathing. According to the developers, the information can be used to determine a person's changes in health conditions so that preventative measures can be taken.
"If you have a loved one who has chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, this app will let you know their true condition without the need for laboratory work," the developers said. They, however, added that Gleenr is not a medical device and is not meant to replace professional medical evaluations.
"This tool is best used to motivate people to be more engaged in their health management, which can lead to better adherence to treatment plans and healthier lifestyle choices," the team added.
Another application for the device is elderly vitals monitoring. Gleenr's developers said that remote monitoring can provide an additional layer of security, allowing elderly family members or patients to live independently while still being closely monitored.
To get data on vital signs, users will need to upload a video from their phone or computer into the Gleenr app. The platform will then provide results in seconds, including moment-to-moment measurements of each detected facial movement. Soon, live video analysis will be available.
The company emphasizes that it is not facial recognition software and does not retain any biometric data. All “gleens” are only accessible by the user and deleted after some time, with no data shared with any third parties.
