State funding from the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform will deploy Voltpost chargers across public and private locations
Voltpost, the lamppost electric vehicle (EV) charging company, today announced it has been awarded $100,000 from the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform (MMFP), administered by the State of Michigan’s Office of Future Mobility and Electrification (OFME). The funding from the MMFP will be used to deploy 10 Voltpost chargers on lampposts curbside and in parking lots across Michigan, including the Detroit Metropolitan area.
Voltpost’s lamppost charging platform significantly reduces the cost, timing and footprint of EV chargers by retrofitting existing infrastructure and removing costly construction and trenching barriers typically tied to EV charging installation. With Voltpost, municipalities will be able to generate new revenue streams, improve city planning with new infrastructure data, and accelerate decarbonization by spurring EV adoption. Convenient public EV charging access on city streets and in parking lots will reduce range anxiety for EV drivers and advance Michigan’s goal to build a reliable, convenient and accessible statewide network of 100,000 EV chargers by 2030.

This is the second grant that the company has received from the MMFP. Making headway in Michigan since 2022, Voltpost was awarded a $65,000 grant from the MMFP for the deployment of the company’s retrofit lamppost charging platform at the Detroit Smart Parking Lab (DSPL) to simulate a curbside charging environment. Voltpost now has its demo unit up in Newlab at Michigan Central. Throughout this project, Voltpost conducted product demonstrations with Michigan drivers, OEMs, local government agencies and officials to gather useful feedback. Voltpost also participated in the Plug and Play Detroit Mobility cohort and won the Plug and Play Pitch Night event, selected down from 150 startups at the Detroit Auto Show in September 2023.
Voltpost’s work in Michigan aligns closely with the City of Detroit's focus on Level 2 EV charging solutions for curbside charging and the goal to deploy 250 Level 2 curbside chargers on city-owned land. Voltpost is well-positioned to contribute to this initiative by swiftly deploying the company’s chargers on lampposts throughout the city. Unlike other curbside charging solutions, Voltpost can install a charger in about one hour for a fraction of the cost with no construction, trenching or extensive permitting. The ease of installation enables more EV charging in underserved communities, high-density areas and other “charging deserts,” making Voltpost the ideal solution for Detroit’s urban environments.
