NILIT Publishes 2022-23 Impact Report

Innovation and Partnership Set the Pace for Textile Industry Change

NILIT, the global leader in high-performance, sustainably made Nylon 6.6 fibers for the apparel industry and owner of the SENSIL® consumer brand, has issued the update to the company’s Impact Report for the period 2022-2023. The Impact Report describes how NILIT has actively shaped the narrative of textile sustainability with innovative products, unique partnerships, and a strong sense of urgency to accelerate change.

“We feel that the time to act is running out quickly,” says Ilan Melamed, NILIT General Manager. “This Impact Report summarizes the changes we have enacted in our business to improve each phase of our products’ life cycles, from fiber to finished product. Our concentration on circularity drives every aspect of our decision-making beginning with production investment and product development priorities through to reimagining the apparel value chain from origin to end-of-life.”

NILIT’s investments in production impact reductions across its global manufacturing network yielded significant improvements. Compared to 2017, NILIT’s energy consumption declined by 46%, natural gas use dropped by 12%, water withdrawal fell by 11%, and GHG emissions were reduced by 27%.

NILIT’s achievements in product innovation targeted the industry’s specific environmental shortcomings. The SENSIL® portfolio of premium Nylon 6.6 products creates the basis for fabrics and apparel that lessen the use of fossil products, increase recycled content, reduce resource consumption and waste, and lay the foundation for apparel circularity. Through partnerships with mills, brands, and retailers, these products are being featured in beautiful collections that are being well received by consumers.

The latest NILIT innovation, SENSIL® Flow, is an entirely new approach to apparel circularity that addresses today’s hurdles to fabric and apparel recycling. The comprehensive initiative encompasses product and process innovation along with partnership and education throughout the apparel value chain. New SENSIL® Flow Nylon 6.6 is expertly crafted to provide inherent stretch, making possible premium mono-component performance fabrics that are easier to recycle. Plus, NILIT is establishing new partnerships with fabric and apparel recyclers to capture, reprocess, and reuse fabric and apparel waste.
