In 1976, he earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Missouri and continued his education at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he obtained a Doctor of Medicine in 1980. He then completed a residency in internal medicine at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in 1983, a fellowship in rheumatology at National Capital Consortium between 1983 and 1985 and postdoctoral studies in cellular and molecular immunology from Uniformed Services University in 1986.

In addition to his achievements in higher academia, Dr. Dennis earned various credentials, including a Missouri state medical license in 1986, as well as certifications in internal medicine and rheumatology from the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Professional Journey

Dr. Dennis' expertise is highlighted by his impressive professional journey. After completing medical school on a military scholarship, he spent approximately 18 years at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center (now the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center). During his time at the center, he became the chief of rheumatology and clinical immunology. He retired from the Army in 2001 and was then recruited by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). At the NIAMS, he served as the director of clinical care and training, overseeing the fellowship training program.

Other positions that Dr. Dennis has held at IQVIA include the senior vice president of therapeutic science and strategy from 2018 to 2022, senior vice president of the company from 2018 to 2025 and the senior vice president of public health and external affairs from 2023 to 2025.

A Distinguished Professional

Dr. Dennis' expertise and contributions have been widely recognized with the various awards he has received throughout his career. In 2019, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Missouri College of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, he has been the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Rheumatology in 2011, the Director's Award for Mentoring at the NIH in 2003 and the Legion of Merit in 2001.

Dr. Dennis credits his professional success to his desire to help others, attention to detail and superb organizational skills. Many years ago, an individual advised him not to close any door that he didn't have to and to reach beyond the stars, advice he now shares with others.
