CVRD Sustainable Development

Rio de Janeiro, April 10, 2003 – Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) informs that ALBRAS - Alumínio Brasileiro S.A. (Albras), an aluminum company controlled by its wholly-owned subsidiary Vale do Rio Doce Alumínio S.A. – Aluvale, kept its four international certifications: ISO 9001- Quality Standard,ISO 14001 – Environment Control,OHSAS 18001 – Safety and Health and AS 8000 – Corporate Social Responsibility – after being audited by BVQI – Bureau Veritas Quality International. Albras is the only Brazilian metals company to hold this kind of multi-certification.

At the same time, Albras achieved five million men hour worked with no accidents.

These events highlight the value given by CVRD and its subsidiaries and affiliates to sustainable development, strongly committed to transparency, social responsibility, environmental protection and work safety.
