Keystone Symposia and Volkswagen Foundation Begin Scientific Conference Series in Hannover, Germany

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. - March 22, 2018 - PRLog -- Keystone Symposia, in partnership with the Volkswagen Foundation, is pleased to announce a series of scientific research conferences to be held at Herrenhausen Palace in Hannover, Germany. The inaugural event will take place April 15-19, 2018 on the topic of "Pushing the Limits of Healthspan and Longevity" organized by Dr. Rochelle Buffenstein of Calico Life Sciences LLC., Dr. Holly M. Brown-Borg of the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Dr. Colin Selman of the University of Glasgow.

Targeted at researchers and scientists studying or interested in aging, the conference will explore cutting-edge advances in aging research and potential therapeutic interventions to extend lifespan. In particular, it will focus on the science of good fat vs. bad fat, proteostasis, the impact of diet, and regulation of energy metabolism and homeostasis. An opening keynote address by Dr. C. Ronald Kahn of Joslin Diabetes Center and Harvard Medical School on "Controlling Metabolism during Aging, the Role of Insulin and Adipose Depots" will be followed by four days of lectures by experts from academia and industry, plus workshops and poster sessions. In addition, a free public lecture on the question of why we age will be held in German in conjunction with the conference featuring Dr. Martin S. Denzel of the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Aging. This will take place at 7 p.m. on April 17, 2018.

The second conference will be held June 4-8, 2018 on "One Million Genomes: From Discovery to Health" organized by Dr. Geoffrey Ginsburg of Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Teri Manolio of the National Human Genome Research Institute at the US National Institutes of Health, and Patrick Boon Ooi Tan of Singapore's Biomedical Research Council (A*STAR). This conference looks at genomics medicine advances since the human genome was sequenced, in particular focusing on precision medicine and how best to use the rich genomics data-sets now available on both an individual level through to population health management.
