DONORSTRUST ACCOUNT HOLDERS EXCEED 2020 CONTRIBUTIONS

--News Direct--

The team at DonorsTrust, a donor-advised fund (DAF) committed to encouraging philanthropic giving and protecting donor intent, today announced more resources are flowing into the DAF as account holders continue contributing and new philanthropists choose to open or transfer accounts to DonorsTrust.

“Funding for charitable causes that solve problems and strengthen society without reliance on government programs is on the rise following 2020’s record-breaking year,” explained Lawson Bader, CEO of DonorsTrust. “Despite the challenges of the pandemic and economic uncertainty, the philanthropic spirit is alive and well as donors increase giving, give more strategically and more frequently.”

In 2020, DonorsTrust took in $351 million as it paid out nearly $186 million to charitable causes. With an expected surge in additional giving around the holidays, the amount in 2021 is on track to be significantly higher, and may even double. DonorsTrust has already taken in over $530 million and has granted out over $140 million in donations through October 2021. Over the same period, DonorsTrust has had 2,200 total grants recommended to 775 unique charitable organizations.

“Despite the stock market roller-coaster, economic uncertainty, and changing tax rules, there is a steady increase of money coming in and going out of DonorsTrust,” Bader continued. “As a mission-driven DAF, we have also experienced an uptick in new accounts as some commercial bank and community foundation DAF providers are refusing to support public-policy organizations, regardless of how principled the mission.”

DonorsTrust accountholders often request more money be dispersed from their DAFs than they contribute into the accounts. The institution’s annual payout rate fluctuates between 65 and 105 percent. Consequently, growth from new accounts will generate even more donations to charity. .

“Nearly 1 million Americans use DAFs to centralize and simplify their giving. Low new-account minimums make them the great democratizers of philanthropy — available to all, not just the privileged few,” Bader says.
