Cadillac Boulevard Neighborhood Development Corporation (CBNDC) Announces Successful Renovation of Cadillac Park in Akron, Ohio

For several years Cadillac Park was abandoned. Now, with the restoration, the community is experiencing increased positive economic impact while families and residents now have more reason to go outdoors for better health and interaction.

Akron, OH - Cadillac Boulevard Neighborhood Development Corporation (CBNDC), a 501(C)(3) Non-Profit Community Development Corporation (CDC), is happy to announce its successful renovation of Cadillac Park in Akron, Ohio. The CDC decided to embark on creating a positive social impact in the neighborhood that will trigger a community resurgence.

Cadillac Park is an integral part of West Akron, Ohio. However, the community the park primarily impacts is comprised of predominately black families. For decades, the park had been neglected, resulting in missed opportunities of positive growth, social benefit, and economic impact the space could have created. But CBNDC, through its developmental agenda, took on the challenge of renovating the park to impact the community positively.

CBNDC worked with Knight Foundation, private businesses, and the community to embark on the community's largest and most impactful capital improvement project for several decades. After months of planning, designing, building, and constructing, Cadillac Park has been brought back to life and once again takes its place as an integral part of this underserved community. With the rebirth and established prominence of the park, the community has experienced renewed pride, positive growth, and development.

For example, there is an increase in property value which is helping to grow the local economy. Private homeownership has also increased, and the community has been attracting young professional families who have chosen the community as their home. There is also an uptick in capital investment, and a gradual inflow of other essential elements of a growing community is also visible.

Cadillac Park is also helping to promote community wellness as more people now have a reason to go outdoors, breathe in clean air, exercise, and socialize. It provides a connection space for people to meet and interact, which improves their mental health. Family bonding is also another good reason why the Cadillac Park renewal project has massive benefits for community growth. With space available for recreation and community activities, parents participate in activities that help them bond with their children.

The CBNDC team is committed to developing neighborhoods in West Akron and surrounding communities. The group is also currently implementing other projects which will impact communities and families that live in them for generations. With the continued support from well-meaning organizations and members of the community, they are on track to do more to improve the social equity, economy, and health of underserved communities not only in West Akron but also nationwide.
