[ST LOUIS, Mo.- January 2021–] KIND soap company continues to observe its pillars on principles of ecological stewardship by moving an increasing number of their products from single-use containers to reusable and refillable packages. They have pushed aggressively over the past year with their refill program to reduce the amount of single-use plastics used in their store. The refill program started in March of 2020 and has been expanded ever since. It now includes bath salts, liquid soaps, shampoo and conditioners, lotions and cremes, and select facial skin care.
Founder Jean Scholtes highlights KIND’s effort to be kind to the planet. She says their mission is to sell products that have a low impact on the environment. In addition to packaging, KIND works to use ingredients and labels that are kind to the environment because they come from fair-trade and sustainable sources.
Back in early 2020, KIND soap introduced refillable liquids and lotions, then continued the effort and moved into having bar soaps added to the trend. All bar soaps were then available for purchase without packaging. This, obviously, completely eliminated any and all packaging waste. The bare soaps fit in well with the already existing program of cut-your-own bar soap. The custom cut options rotate while the staple bars offer common favorites.
The refill program still applies to the KIND All-Purpose Liquid Soap, with can be used as a cleansing hand soap or a gel for hair and body in the shower. Not only is the container refillable to reduce single-use waste, it is a gentle multi-purpose cleanser that eliminates the waste of purchasing multiple products in plastic.
The KIND refill program allows for more than just refilling bottles purchased in the store. Customers are also encouraged to bring their own clean containers to the store and fill them with their desired hair care products, cremes, and lotions. The liquids are purchased by the ounce with the original weight of the bottle subtracted.
