MacroFab and Mouser Electronics Launch the International Space Station Design Challenge

By: PRLog
MacroFab Joins Mouser as Manufacturing Partner to Announce Groundbreaking Contest to 3D-Print Design Aboard International Space Station.
HOUSTON - July 26, 2016 - PRLog -- MacroFab, in partnership with Mouser Electronics, officially kicks off the International Space Station (I.S.S.) Design Challenge to invite engineers, makers, and students to imagine and design new innovative products that can be made to assist astronauts with their daily lives onboard the International Space Station. Product designers and engineers worldwide are invited to imagine what new innovations can be developed to improve the work, health and quality of life of astronauts while completing their missions in space.

Product design submissions will be judged by a panel of space and electronics experts, including Grant Imahara (MythBusters and BattleBots) and former International Space Station Commander Chris Hadfield. Three top designs will be fabricated and one final design will be selected to be 3D printed onboard the actual International Space Station. The final design winner will receive a 3D printer, a consultation with Made In Space — pioneers in additive manufacturing technology for use in the space environment — and the prestige of seeing their design 3D-printed aboard the I.S.S.

The I.S.S. Design Challenge is hosted by Mouser Electronics, a global electronic components distributor, and is sponsored by two of Mouser's valued suppliers. MacroFab serves as the manufacturing partner for the contest and will be fabricating the electronic boards used to power the top designs and final design. The I.S.S. Design Challenge runs through October 7th, 2016.

"MacroFab's partnership with Mouser Electronics on the I.S.S. Design Challenge is a natural fit for us. We founded MacroFab to foster innovation by enabling inventors everywhere with the tools to solve complex problems through the development of new, smart devices. We're excited to help connect inventors with our astronauts in space and are proud supporters of the I.S.S. Design Challenge." – Chris Church, MacroFab CEO
