Nearly 40 percent of the energy consumed in the U.S. is used to generate power, which makes power consumption a key component of the country’s environmental footprint. Most to this power in the U.S. is generated from fossil fuels. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) co-sponsors the Green Power Leadership Awards to recognize leading actions of organizations and individuals that advance the development of green power sources to reduce the environmental footprint.

The EPA Green Power Partner award winners in 2014 include Apple, Google, BD and Oklahoma State University in the category “Partner of the Year.” Intel Corporation and Kohl’s Department Stores are the winners in “Sustained Excellence in Green Power” category. Winners in “Green Power Purchasing” include Herman Miller, Inc., REI, Steelcase Inc., Trek Bicycle, and Philadelphia Insurance Companies, among others.
