Emerging Global Advisors (EGA), the asset manager to the EGShares exchange-traded fund (ETF) offering, announced today that Edward Kerschner joined the firm as Vice Chairman. In this role, Mr. Kerschner will be an integral part of the strategy team and will be responsible for helping wealth managers understand developing market investment opportunities.

After leaving Citi, he continued as a Senior Strategy Consultant to Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and a member of the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Global Investment Committee through 2012. He received a B.S. degree from the New York University School of Engineering and Science and an M.B.A. degree from the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration, and is a member of the CFA Institute.

“Ed was an early Wall Street contributor to both the use of financial models in portfolio weighting and the development of thematic investing concepts which are driven by demography and consumer behavior,” said Marten Hoekstra, CEO of EGA. “His expertise is particularly relevant in developing markets and will further EGA’s leadership in identifying and delivering developing market thematic investment opportunities.”

“I am very pleased Ed is joining the EGA team, as his experience in identifying thematic opportunities and delivering insights to the wealth management market will be particularly helpful to EGA’s many clients,” said Nicholas Smithie, EGA’s Chief Investment Strategist.

“As one of the most rapidly growing developing markets asset managers focused on enabling investors to efficiently tailor their developing markets portfolio allocation strategies, EGA is at the forefront of what I view as one the most exciting opportunities in my four decades in the business,” said Mr. Kerschner. “I am thrilled to join the firm and work with wealth managers to take advantage of developing market investment opportunities.”

Emerging market investments involve risk of capital loss from unfavorable fluctuation in currency values, from differences in generally accepted accounting principles, from economic or political instability in other nations or increased volatility, and lower trading volume. This fund will concentrate its investments in issuers of one or more particular industries to the same extent that its Underlying Index is so concentrated and to the extent permitted by applicable regulatory guidance. Concentration risk results from maintaining exposure to issuers conducting business in a specific industry. Small cap and mid cap companies generally will have greater volatility in price than the stocks of large companies due to limited product lines or resources or a dependency upon a particular market niche. The value of an investment denominated in a foreign currency could change significantly as foreign currencies strengthen or weaken relative to the U.S. dollar.
