PR Log - Oct 24, 2011 - AS THE UK continues to lead the world in reducing carbon emissions, British households have been told they can make an important contribution by applying for a loft insulation grant.
Britain is currently well placed to meet the targets set out by the Kyoto Protocol to lessen its carbon footprint and, under the Climate Change Act, is aiming to reduce emissions by 80% on 1990 levels before 2050.
Last week the UK Government also called for more support from outside Europe for the Kyoto Protocol, with the treaty in danger of being discontinued unless the US, China and India show more commitment towards it.
Encouraging more households to improve the energy efficiency of their homes by applying for home insulation grants has been one of the key initiatives the Government has used to keep moving towards its Kyoto Protocol targets.
However, despite the green achievements of the UK, Environmental Group EnergyLink believe that many households are missing the opportunity to play their part in the nation’s drive to reduce emissions by not taking advantage of loft insulation grants.
Currently any homeowner or private tenant who is aged 70 or over or receiving certain benefits, allowances or tax credits can claim a grant to cover the full cost of loft insulation.
Those people who do not fall into that home insulationcategory are still eligible for insulation grants to cover up to 70% of the cost of loft insulation.
While these loft insulation grants do not need to be repaid, from next year a new loan-based system for home insulation will be launched as part of the Government’s Green Deal initiative.
As well as saving up to £150 each year on household heating bills, loft insulation can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 800kg annually.
This means, with insulation grants, homeowners have an opportunity to take a proactive step to significantly lower their CO2 output and help the nation meet its carbon reduction targets.
