By: Get News
"GIFTS" offers an engaging compilation of unique poems that delve into various topics – from religious themes to personal travel experiences. Rooted in Grappel's distinct journey, his verses ponder the mysteries of life, shaped by a poetry composition course guided by Professor Donald Hall during his time at the University of Michigan.

Renowned poet Robert D. Grappel takes readers on a journey of introspection with the release of his latest work, "GIFTS." This thought-provoking collection of original poetry explores a wide array of topics, including religious themes, philosophy, and travel experiences, offering readers a glimpse into Grappel's unique perspective on life.

Grappel's journey traces back to his first year at the University of Michigan in 1967. He enrolled in a graduate-level poetry composition course to fulfill his English requirement. Reflecting on this decision, Grappel shares, "I had dabbled with writing folk songs and parodies in high school, but with extreme nerve, I decided to sign up for a graduate-level course in poetry composition."

Under the mentorship of Professor Donald Hall, a luminary with over 50 books spanning children's literature, biography, memoir, essays, and 22 volumes of verse, Grappel honed his craft. Recalling Hall's class, where each student, including the esteemed professor, had to produce a new poem for every session, Grappel acknowledges the profound impact of his poetic journey.

"All the poems were read aloud in class anonymously, and the discussion/critiques that followed were often quite spirited. Even Professor Hall's poems did not escape the class's criticism," shares Grappel.

However, that poetry class under Professor Hall, the 14th Poet Laureate of the United States, paved the way for Grappel's impressive career in Literature & Fiction

"In most bookstores, poetry books are shelved alphabetically by the author's name. My four thin volumes of original poetry are right there next to Donald Hall's many books. I wonder if he knew what he had started when he let a freshman enroll in his class in 1968," reflects Grappel, recognizing the transformative outcome of that poetry composition course for him.

"GIFTS" serves as a testament to Grappel's multifaceted life, holding graduate degrees in Physics and Computer Science while passionately pursuing folk singing. The poems encapsulate his diverse background, blending scientific insight with a lifelong fascination for aviation.

In his own words, Grappel succinctly describes his book: "The poems in 'GIFTS' are my attempt to share some of the gifts that life has given me with others."

Author Robert D. Grappel's enriching book "GIFTS" is now available at major bookstores globally, including Amazon and Barnes and Noble
