Meet the Man Tackling Menopause: Charles Mattocks Leads a New Awareness Movement

In a world where conversations about menopause have been historically hushed or stigmatized, one man is boldly stepping up to ensure this natural life transition is given the attention it deserves. Charles Mattocks, an award-winning film and TV producer known for his work on health-related issues, is using his platform to shed light on menopause and raise awareness for those affected by it. His advocacy is just the latest chapter in his long history of championing the cause of health conditions and the people who live with them.

The Catalyst for Advocacy: A Personal Journey

Charles Mattocks’ entry into health advocacy began over a decade ago when he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. At the time, he was working as a successful producer in the entertainment industry, but the diagnosis changed the course of his life. Rather than let his condition define him, Charles turned his personal challenge into a mission to help others facing similar health battles. "When I was diagnosed with diabetes 13 years ago, I didn't want to be just another statistic. I wanted to change the narrative, and I knew that storytelling could be the way to do it," Charles shares.

This mission led him to create the groundbreaking diabetes docu-reality series Reversed, the first ever program dedicated to reversing type 2 diabetes. The series was a game-changer, providing viewers with valuable insights, inspiration, and actionable steps to manage and reverse their diabetes. It was just the beginning of a larger career dedicated to advocating for people living with health conditions.

Expanding the Advocacy: From Diabetes to Menopause

Charles’ focus on health-related issues expanded as he saw the overwhelming need for more conversations about chronic health conditions that often go unnoticed or underrepresented. His experience producing shows on diabetes, cancer, and pain conditions, among others, brought him to the realization that menopause was another health topic that needed more visibility.

Despite affecting millions of women worldwide, menopause is still largely under-discussed in mainstream media. This silence can create a sense of isolation and frustration for women going through this natural phase of life. Charles saw an opportunity to bring much-needed attention to this issue, using his influence in the television and film industry to help normalize the conversation.

“I’ve worked with countless people who are living with chronic conditions, and I’ve seen the power that stories can have in changing perceptions and making people feel heard,” Charles explains. “Menopause is no different. It’s time to stop treating it like a taboo subject. It’s a part of life, and we need to talk about it openly.”

Advocating for Menopause: A Fresh Perspective

Though menopause is a topic traditionally associated with women, Charles believes men have an important role to play in the conversation. “Men can be allies and supporters in the menopause conversation,” he says. “We need more men to understand that menopause affects the women in their lives—whether it’s a partner, a mother, or a friend—and they can make a huge difference by being supportive and informed.”

Charles has used his extensive media reach, appearing on programs like CNN and The Today Show, to speak about menopause and encourage men to educate themselves on the subject. “When men learn about the impact of menopause, they can be better partners, better fathers, and better colleagues. We’re all in this together,” he adds.

By sharing stories from people who are living with menopause, as well as experts in the field, Charles aims to foster an environment where open dialogue is encouraged. His advocacy also emphasizes the need for better support systems for those going through menopause, whether in the workplace, in healthcare, or within families.

A Groundbreaking New Project: The First-Ever Menopause Docu-Reality Series

Taking his passion for storytelling and advocacy even further, Charles is set to begin production on the first-ever menopause docu-reality series, which will be shot in Costa Rica. This groundbreaking project will feature some of the biggest names in the menopause world from around the globe. This includes Dr Betsy Greenleaf, Dr Jessica Shepherd, Dr Jayne Morgan, Dr Jenn Simmons, Dr Judith Joseph, Jill Chmeilewski, Dr Sangeeta Pati, Dr. Suruchi Thakore, Amanda Thebe, Kevin Ellis, Jane Durst-Pulkys and more.

Over the course of four days, these women will live together in a shared space, where they will openly discuss their personal experiences with menopause—everything from hot flashes and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to the emotional and psychological effects of this life stage.

Charles explains the concept: “The goal of this project is to set a stage where conversations are completely natural. It’s not about planning what’s next or trying to make it ‘look perfect.’ Instead, we want the group to navigate these conversations in real time, allowing viewers to see the full spectrum of what women go through during menopause, and—most importantly—how they can support one another.”

This unique format will allow viewers to witness firsthand how these women manage their menopause journey, offering an unfiltered look at the challenges and triumphs they experience along the way. Additionally, the show will feature the loved ones of the guests, offering insight into how they are supporting their partners, family members, or friends through this transformative phase of life.

“We’ll hear from husbands, sons, daughters—people who are living with someone going through menopause and who are learning what it means to be supportive,” says Charles. “It’s important that we include the voices of the people around them, too. Menopause affects everyone in a woman’s life, and those relationships are vital to understanding the full picture.”

We are proud to collaborate with esteemed partners who share our commitment to supporting women’s health and wellness. Among them are Health & Her, Winona, The Metabolic Kitchen, and Elidah, whose contributions are helping to shape and enhance this impactful series.

Continuing a Family Legacy of Advocacy

Charles Mattocks is also the nephew of the late reggae legend Bob Marley, whose influence on social justice and advocacy continues to inspire him today. Bob Marley was known for using his platform to speak out for the voiceless, and Charles credits much of his own passion for helping others to the same sense of purpose his uncle embodied.

“Growing up, I saw my uncle’s commitment to using his voice for the good of others,” Charles reflects. “He wasn’t just a music icon—he was a voice for the oppressed and a force for positive change. I try to carry that same spirit with me in my work.”

This family legacy of advocacy has shaped Charles’ approach to health issues, from diabetes to menopause. He views each new project not just as an opportunity to raise awareness but as a chance to help people feel seen, heard, and supported.

Changing the Conversation: What’s Next?

Charles Mattocks’ work in menopause advocacy is part of a larger, ongoing effort to give people living with health conditions the representation and support they deserve. As the conversation around menopause continues to evolve, Charles hopes that more men will join the movement to help normalize the discussion and support women during this significant life transition.

“I want to help create a world where no one feels like they have to suffer in silence, whether it’s from menopause, diabetes, or any other condition,” he says. “If we can change the narrative and make these issues part of our daily conversations, we can create a more empathetic, understanding world for everyone.”

With his unique perspective, extensive media reach, and deep-rooted passion for health advocacy, Charles Mattocks is proving that true change begins when we come together to break down barriers, share stories, and speak up for those who need it most.

The Road Ahead

As Charles continues to create programs that highlight people living with health conditions, there’s no doubt that his advocacy work will keep pushing boundaries and sparking important conversations. And as the discussion around menopause grows, thanks to advocates like him, more and more people will feel empowered to embrace this life stage without fear, shame, or hesitation.

Through his unwavering commitment to raising awareness and creating impactful media, Charles Mattocks is leaving a lasting mark on the world of health advocacy—one story at a time.
